  • World Maths Day - 3rd March

    Published 26/02/21

Since Pythagoreans created the word “mathematics” in the 6th century BC, numbers have been a beneficial and challenging part of life.

First held in 2007, World Maths Day was originally celebrated on March 14 (3.14 or sometimes called “Pi Day”) but has since been changed to the first Wednesday in March. This is one of the largest global educational events on the planet!

To celebrate mathematics, this year, we are participating in a World Maths Day Times Table Rock Star Tournament on Wednesday 3rd March 2021. The Tournament will be virtual and children will need to login to Times Table Rock Stars (www.ttrockstars.com) and play the single player games to earn points for their class. The winning classes will be announced in next week's newsletter. We hope your child enjoys the day and celebrates maths with us.

  • School Closure

    Published 01/02/21

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Due to Government guidance, Shaftesbury will only be open for pupils who have parents that are Critical Workers, pupils with SEN or those who are vulnerable until March 8th. The school remains open daily and the telephones will be answered as usual for any questions you may have around remote learning.  Most of our pupils are completing work on our learning platform, Google Classroom but if you require packs they will be available every Friday for the following week for collection in our outdoor lobby area next to reception.
Pupils will be taught by their teachers via Google Classroom daily with a timetable that mirrors a school day.  Lessons will be uploaded and teachers will provide feedback to all work that is submitted. If you do not have access to an electronic device, please let us know and we will make alternative arrangements for you.   We will provide live lessons in addition on a weekly basis for all children and the number of these will be determined by age group.
Please email or telephone the school if you require your child to have a place in the Critical Worker or other priority groups the week before so we can formulate the rota’s for staff to attend.  We have loaned devices on agreement to our families who need them so if you require further support with IT equipment please do get in touch.  If you are eligible for FSM vouchers they will have been issued to you unless your child is in school and having a cooked meal.

Planning will be up on the website a week in advance so that you can prepare for the following week ahead.  Reading books of an appropriate level will also be issued weekly along with additional reading material in daily lessons.  Please ensure your child reads daily.

We are here to support you through this difficult period and all channels of communication will remain open.

    Best wishes,

    Jo O'Connor
