Pupil Premium
Pupil Premium Expenditure 2019/20
At Shaftesbury, pupil premium is used to improve classroom pedagogy, provide targeted support and support whole school strategies for disadvantaged pupils. Our aim is to diminish the progress and attainment difference between Pupil Premium children and Non Pupil Premium children. Pupil Premium children are tracked to ensure progress is being made through quality teaching across the school, targeted early intervention and reduced set sizes in year 5 and 6 for maths and English and focussed RWI groups across the school. Intensive small group interventions have been set up in English and mathematics across the school to diminish the gap. All pupil premium children are listened to twice for reading each week.
We have a family support worker who works closely supporting these families monitoring attendance as this is the most crucial factor when raising attainment of vulnerable groups. Our family support working team enables teachers to focus on quality teaching while pastoral issues with families are supported. In addition, we have breakfast club available and this has shown an improvement of attendance and punctuality alongside the opportunity for pupils to complete h/w, activities they do not understand at home. There is after school provision of 14 clubs that support both physical and mental wellbeing. Pupils have improved access to a wider range of sports including dodge ball, football, cheer leading, gymnastics, fencing and inter school sports.
Our method to benefit pupils will involve the following;
- Ensuring good outcomes for all pupils
- Ensuring accountability by measuring the gap in attainment between disadvantaged pupils and their peers.
